Bees flying around bushes. Should you get Pest Control service?

Bees around bushes, honey bees This is the time of year that Pest control companies have their phones ringing off the hook. One of the most popular calls we get around this time involves bees flying around the bushes outside of a home. The first reaction of most homeowners is to spray the bushes down with pesticides or hire a Pest control company to do it for you. This is sometimes a mistake and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.
Most of the time these bees are harmless, they will not bother you they are simply gathering pollen. Honey bees in particular should not be sprayed, because the population of this extremely important bee is shrinking. We need bees to pollinate plants in order to produce food and many other important things. So please becareful when deciding to control bees around your home. Most pest control companies will give you a free consultation to identify the bees and offer safe suggestions. Here are a few steps to take if you notice a heavy increase in bee activity around your home.
  • Most of the time they will not bother you while collecting pollen so do not disturb the bushes but observe where the bees are going. Usually you will see them fly off out of sight, sometimes however you may have a yellow jacket nest near the bushes or a bee hive very close by. Watching the bees can give you a hint to a dangerously close hive.
  • Try to just avoid the bushes if you can. They will usually only stay around the bushes until right after they bloom. Once they are done you will probably not see the bees anymore.
  • Look along the edges of your roof on the outside of your home. Sometimes wasps or hornets will build nests here. These should be sprayed and removed.
If you suspect Honey Bees please call a be Keeper. These bees are valuable and a bee keeper can often times remove and relocate the hive without destroying it.
